Siyum is in his third year of Kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick. His interests include studying orthopedics and spinal research, specifically exercise following lumbar or cervical surgery. Siyum wishes to pursue medicine after his undergraduate degree. Besides school, he is also a volunteer at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and is a volunteer research assistant at the Canada East Spine Centre. During his free time, Siyum enjoys playing and watching basketball, reading, working out and making music.

Kelsi is currently in her third year of Psychology Neuroscience with a minor in Biology. Kelsi’s interests include abnormal psychology and child psychopathology. After her baccalaureate she wishes to go to receive a Masters in Neuroscience and then go to medical school to pursue a career in treating people who medicine has traditionally neglected and making more communities aware of mental health and sustainability. When Kelsi is not in class she can be found with her head buried deep in the books at the library. In Kelsi’s free time she enjoys rewatching Grey's Anatomy, grabbing a coffee with a friend, and going to the local market with her friends and family.

Houda is in her first year of chemical engineering at the University of New Brunswick. She aspires to graduate with an option in nuclear engineering, a minor in computer science, and a diploma in technical management and entrepreneurship. She is someone who can not easily decide on a subject to love. So, you will find her talking about astronomy one time, her childhood dream major, and fantasizing about working at a nuclear plant the next. She is also fond of pharmaceutical and biochemical research. As a solution to her career indecisiveness, she hopes to pursue a master’s in a different engineering field. Outside of her studies, you will find her learning Korean, reading Aristotle and Jean Jacque Rousseau books, reading articles about her role model Marie Curie, and participating in UNB’s societies to help international students feel at home and for their voices to be heard.

Bhavya is in his second year of study at the University of New Brunswick from the faculty of Management, pursuing a dual major in Economics and English and a minor in Theatre and Drama. He possesses a passion towards reading and writing that encouraged him to be part of the ASRJ Team and provide valuable input. Bhavya believes that ASRJ is an extremely intriguing platform for students to explore different opportunities related to research and technology. Apart from writing, Bhavya likes to follow his passion of acting as well, by being part of several Theatre and Drama productions here at UNB.

Khanh is in her second year of a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. She has an enthusiasm for science especially Chemistry and Biology. After graduation, she wants to attend graduate school and get involved in research which is related to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She believes that ASRJ is a great platform for students whose interests are research and academic fields. In her free time, she loves singing, learning more about photography and cooking. She also spends time taking part in many voluntary activities and giving back to the community.

Alex is currently working on his PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on wireless communication, electromagnetics, and machine learning. His research aims to improve internet quality in rural communities. In his leisure time he can often be found playing video games, doing judo, or in the gym.

Ben is a third year Electrical Engineering Student at UNB. He is passionate about slowing the effects of climate change and is determined to use his degree to expedite the transition to a sustainable future for humans. He is excited to be a part of the ASRJ to meet other ambitious students, and to learn about research in Atlantic Canada pertaining to the environmental crisis and its potential solutions. In his free time, Ben enjoys playing sports, hanging out with friends and spending time with family.

Dana El-Mughayyar, Research Coordinator of Canada East Spine Centre completed her BSc. in Biology Psychology in 2019 and is currently undergoing her MScKin at UNBF. She is the head of the Volunteer Mentorship Program offered to undergraduate and graduate students and the head of CESC's social media accounts. She is the main research coordinator for the Praxis Spinal Cord Injury Registry which specializes in spinal cord injury and traumatic inpatients. Y. El-Mughayyar is also in the process of writing 8 manuscripts for publication. Outside of CESC, El-Mughayyar also participates as one of the writers for the Atlantic Student Research Journal and recently started to write articles for editions of the Canadian Spine Society Newsletter – Spinal Columns.

Reid is currently in her fourth year of concurrent Biology and English Literature degrees at UNB, with a concentration in Marine Biology. Though Fredericton was quick to become her second home, she will always be a proud Nova Scotian--and you can usually find her wandering around a farmer’s market or a beach when she’s not studying. Reid’s research interests lie predominantly in the field of elasmobranch ecology and physiology, and more specifically, in shark science--though she also works as an Aquatic Technician for the Canadian Rivers Institute. Over the course of her collaboration with the ASRJ, Reid looks forward to helping make some of the incredible research happening in Atlantic Canada more widely accessible.

Anna is entering her second year of a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and is excited to start collaborating and getting involved with research in Atlantic Canada with the ASRJ. She hopes to inspire others to get involved with research in their community through writing, by making science more accessible to the public. She is most fascinated with ecology and animal behaviour. In her free time, you can often find her bouldering, mountain biking, playing with her dog, or photographing wildlife in New Brunswick.

Shaylah is in her third year of BSc Kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick. She is passionate about opportunities to help others and is looking to eventually pursue a medical career related to disease. In her free time she can be found reading fiction or playing video games.
