To start off, say a little about yourself, your interests, undergraduate degree and what you are doing now. “I’m from Saint-Louis NB attended UNB for two years in the Medicinal chemistry program and am currently studying in the Bachelor of Pharmacy program.”
What would your best advice be to incoming students interested in pharmacy school? “My best advice for students; If you're sure on what you want to do just go for it! You’ll be told it’s putting all your eggs in the same basket but I think it’s following your dreams! Also take time off from studying for friends, hobbies and family makes the workload so much easier!”
What would be your best experience during undergrad? “My best experience during undergrad was definitely homecoming. The amount of spirit and enthusiastic energy the UNB family has is unreal!”
Would there be anything you would have done differently during undergrad to better your chances of being accepted into your program? “Something I would have done differently to better my chances of getting into the program; UNB has so many interesting societies, research and volunteering opportunities and I wish I had taken more time to get involved instead of thinking “maybe next year” just do it you won’t regret it!”
How did you prepare for the application/interview process? “I prepared for the interviewing process by talking to pharmacists and other health care professionals who have been in my shoes. They have lots of experience in the practice and have been through the same processes as you and have great advice!”
How did you gain experience in the field during undergrad in order to better your chances of being a successful applicant? “Second year I took the time to talk to my professors more and join study groups. Learning from other students in my program and in upper years really enhanced my learning. Also this might sound like an obvious tip but it’s important: ATTEND CLASS!”
What is the hardest aspect of applying to pharmacy school? “The hardest aspect of applying to pharmacy school would be the application process in general! Prerequisites are very specific and looking into what classes you need and which credits are compatible to other professional schools early in your degree or even in high school is really important so you can maximize the amount of times you can apply and gain valuable experience.”
