Hannah Cameron - MSc in Speech-Language Pathology

To start off, say a little about yourself, your interests, undergraduate degree and what you are doing now. “This past May I completed an accelerated bachelors degree at the University of New Brunswick's Renaissance College with a minor in psychology. I am a recently retired competitive artistic swimmer of 16 years and have found a new love in Crossfit. I am very passionate about working with individuals with varying abilities and have experience in this field working or volunteering at Camp Rotary, Autism Connections Fredericton, UNB SPRING, All Abilities Artistic Swimming and Best Buddies. This field of work has given me the experience and skills necessary to be a high calibre Speech-Language Pathologist.”

What do you love the most about graduate school? “What I love most about graduate school is the professional environment and that the program is providing me with the skills to pursue the career of my dreams.”

Was it a daunting experience to decide to pursue graduate school? “Not at all. In fact for me it is the opposite of daunting. I have been interested in a Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology since middle school, so it has been beyond exciting for me to begin the school of my dreams!”

How did you gain experience in the field during undergrad in order to better your chances of being a successful applicant? “For Speech-Language Pathology, one of the most valuable experiences you can endure during your undergrad to better your chance as a successful applicant is shadowing Speech-Language Pathologists. Shadowing and/or volunteering Speech-Language Pathologists in various settings allows you the opportunity to watch professionals in action and to learn from them directly. Additionally, any volunteering or employment opportunities that provide experience with individuals with communication disorders is invaluable as well.”
